Abstract

Weber Stake Academy opened its doors on 7 January 1889. Originally operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ownership was transferred to the State of Utah in 1933. The school operated for twenty-five years as an academy--doing primary and high school work--before becoming a junior college.

Voters reject the referendum?1961 -- Weber College transferred from the Board of Education to the trustees ("Laws of Utah, 1961," Chapter 115); designated a senior college ("Laws of Utah, 1961," Chapter 118).?1963 -- Weber College renamed Weber State College ("Laws of Utah, 1963," Chapters 105 & 107).?1990 -- Weber State College renamed Weber State University ("Laws of Utah, 1990," Chapter 193, page 247).
