Department of Natural Resources. Board of Wildlife

Entity: 1784
Entity Type: State Government

Abstract

The Fish and Game Commission was created in 1941 as an oversight body for the Department of Fish and Game. The name "Fish and Game Department" was substituted for the earlier phrase "Commissioner of Fish and Game," in 1941, causing confusion by the similarities in terms. In 1967, the Fish and Game Commission became the Board of Fish and Game within the newly created Department of Natural Resources. In 1971, the Board of Fish and Game became the Wildlife Board. The purpose of the Board is to establish the policies best designed to accomplish the purposes and fulfill the intent of all laws pertaining to wildlife.
