Abstract

Created from functions formerly performed by the Office of Emergency Management and the Council of Defense in 1980. The name was changed to the Division of Emergency Services and Homeland Security (DES) and later Homeland Security only. The division's mission is to plan for, respond to, recover from and mitigate natural and man-made emergencies and disasters and to prevent, secure and protect the citizens of Utah from man-made threats against life, liberty, property and the environment.
