Abstract

The Commission was created in 1973 as an advisory group to the Utah State Board of Education. It sets standards of professional performance, competence and ethical conduct for persons holding licenses issued by the Board.

A majority of its members are classroom teachers. The commission has the responsibility of establishing procedures for acting on alleged violations of standards of ethical conduct and serves as an advisory body for the Utah State Board of Education on professional practices criteria. It is empowered to conduct hearings, issue warnings or reprimands, and recommend revocation or suspension of certificates. It also has the power to administer oaths and request presentation of documents. It is self-governing and has the duty of making recommendations for the improvement of the education profession.
