Abstract

Initially created by legislation 1907 as an independent board to license optometrists. The agency was then known as the Utah State Board of Examiners in Optometry. The board was moved in 1921 to the Department of Registration, thence to the Division of Occupational Licensing with the department's restructuring in 1985. In 1991, it was given its current name of Optometrist Licensing Board.

Biography/History Notes

This board recommends rules to the director regarding professional licensing of optometrists, screens applicants, and presides over hearings associated with adjudicative procedures.

Members of the initial independent board were appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Since 1921, they have been appointed by the department/division director with gubernatorial confirmation.
