Entity Type: State Government

Abstract

Created in 1907 as an independent board to review licensing of veterinarians, the agency was initially called the Utah State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. It was moved under the Department of Registration in 1921, and when that department was restructured as the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing in 1985, it continued as a review board under that division.

Biography/History Notes

This board recommends rules to the director regarding professional licensing of veterinarians, screens applicants, and presides over hearings associated with adjudicative procedures.

Members of the initial independent board were appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Since 1921, they have been appointed by the department/division director with gubernatorial confirmation.
