Department of Development Services

Entity: 303
Entity Type: State Government

Abstract

The Department of Development Services was created in 1967 to coordinate and consolidate in a single department the functions exercised by Industrial Promotion, Travel Council/Travel Development, Aeronautics, State Fair/Expositions, Golden Spike Centennial Commission, State History, and Fine Arts, in order to establish lines of administrative responsibility, increase administrative efficiency, and decrease the cost of state government. Following a number of government restructurings later, the Department was ultimately abolished in 1979 with the creation of the Department of Community and Economic Development.
