Washington County (Utah). Superintendent of District Schools

Entity: 3094
Entity Type: County

Abstract

The Superintendant was an elected county office in the early years to coordinate all the districts created in a county. Uncertain just when started or ended, but records show a superintendant was in place by 1868. The office probably ended on consolidation into a unified school district. The law allowing the creation was passed February 1876. The Superintendant oversaw local districts like St. George, Silver Reef, etc.
