Abstract

The division was created by legislation in 1991 which removed the Division of Environmental Quality from the the Department of Health and made it its own department with Drinking Water as one of its divisions. The mission of the Division of Drinking Water is to cooperatively work with drinking water professionals and the public to ensure a safe and reliable supply of drinking water.

The Division is under the Support Services Director of the Department of Environmental Quality. A statutorily created Drinking Water Board advises and sets policy for the division. The division director is selected by the governor.

The division director oversees three main sections, each with their own manager: the Compliance Section, the Engineering Section, and the Special Services Section. There is also administrative support as well as the scientists and engineers.
