Abstract

The mission of the Office is to prevent sickness and death from infectious diseases and environmental hazards through data analysis, education, surveillance, investigation, and health policy change. Its vision is to utilize scientific principles and knowledge for fostering healthy communities free of preventable diseases. The Office is also responsible for monitoring and responding to potential bioterrorism threats/events, communicable disease outbreaks, epidemics, and other unusual occurrences of illness. When under the Department of Health, this function was performed by the Bureau of Epidemiology.
