Abstract

The Mission of the Utah Insurance Department is to foster a healthy insurance market by promoting fair, reasonable and responsive practices that ensure available, affordable and reliable insurance products and services. The Department educates, serves and protects insurance consumers, governmental agencies and all insurance industry participants.

Biography/History Notes

The overall mission of the Insurance Department is to regulate the insurance industry in the State of Utah (which is composed of 1,542 insurance companies and approximately 15,000 insurance agents); to ensure that all persons in the business of insurance be actuated in good faith, to ensure that individuals and companies abstain from deception, and practice honesty and equity in all insurance matters; and to promote the active competitive environment for the insurance industry in the state. It is vital that the citizens of Utah have an adequate insurance market in the state; a market characterized by insurer reliability, rate competition, and availability of essential insurance products."
