In 1941, the engineering commission was substituted for the state road commission. In 1965, the legislature gave the governor had the power to select the commission members. Finally, in 1975, the aeronautical committee was expanded to five members, all appointed by the governor. Appointments were for 4 years, no more than three could be from the same political party, and the chairman was selected by the committee.
