Biography/History Notes

Present as a main function of the Tax Commission since its beginning in 1931, this agency was created as an independent division in 1949 when the Tax Commission began to semi-formally divide into divisions rather than conduct all activities as a unit. By 1954, it was a division within the Motor Vehicles Department. With the abolition of departments in favor of divisions, it continued as a division until 1995. A restructuring of the Tax Commission in 1995 abolished the division and assigned the personnel and duties, along with those of the Operations Division to the Processing and Customer Service Divisions. However, the Motor Vehicle Division was restored as a separate entity as in its original structure in 2000.
