Abstract
According to the Compiled Laws of Utah 1888, Vol. 1 #1615 s. 5 (the municipal charter for Park City), the Police Justice was another name for the Justice of the Peace, hence the agency names of Police Court or Police Justice as well as Justice of the Peace. There is some confusion on when JPs as city officials versus county officials ended. Park City is unaware of having a JP. In 1953, cities apparently moved to a city court if so desired. City courts (municipal system) were abolished in favor of Circuit Courts (state system) 1 July 1978.
