Abstract

The division was created by legislation in 1991 (SB 34 ) which removed the Division of Environmental Quality from the Department of Health and made it its own department with Radiation Control as one of its divisions. It existed earlier as a subdivision within the Division of Environmental Health. The mission of the Division of Radiation Control program is to protect the citizens of Utah from sources of radiation that constitute a health hazard.

Ensures residents the lowest possible exposure to radiation.

The Division is under the Support Services Director of the Department of Environmental Quality. A statutorily created Radiation Control Board advises and sets policy for the division.
