Abstract

The Office was established in 1975 within the Department of Human Services (DHS) and charged by statute with the responsibility of collecting assigned child support for welfare recipients and recovering other debts such as benefit overpayments for DHS.

Biography/History Notes

Purpose: "Enforces child support orders and collects child support on behalf of requesting families. Ensures medical insurance companies reimburse the state when liable and collects erroneously paid public assistance funds." "Office of recovery services [ORS] collects child support payments for families on public assistance and for others upon request. The office also recovers public assistance and other funds provided to persons who were ineligible and collects criminal assessments, fines, fees, accounts awarded as restitution and reimbursable expenses owed to the state and its political subdivisions."
