Abstract
The division was created as part of the 1991 legislation which removed the Division of Environmental Quality from the Department of Health and made the division its own department with Solid and Hazardous Waste as one of its divisions. The mission of the Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste is to protect public health and the environment by ensuring proper management of solid wastes, hazardous wastes, and used oil within Utah.

The Division is under the Support Services Director of the Department of Environmental Quality. A statutorily created Solid and Hazardous Waste Board advises and sets policy for the division. these files are now kept as part of series 12695. This series closed 2009.
