Salt Lake County Health Services (Utah)

In 1971, the Salt Lake City Health Department merged with the Salt Lake County Health Dept. under an agreement to call the department the Salt Lake City-County Health Dept. Administration was still by the county. Over time, newly created cities within the county were brought in and it grew from one location in Salt Lake City to 10 in the valley by 2000. The Board of Health and the Executive Director consulted with city mayors, county commissioners and department division directors and got approval for a name change. On May 4, 2000, the Board of Health unanimously approved the new name of Salt Lake Valley Health Department.
