The Chief Administrator is appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council. The Administrator oversees the day-to-day operations of the city, including supervision of eight (as of 2000) departments: Administrative Services, City Attorney, Community Development, Fire, Parks & Recreation, Police, Public Utilities, and Public Works.
