Tooele (Utah). Mayor
Entity: 3042
Entity Type: Municipality
Abstract
Tooele is the only city in Utah administered under a "home rule charter" created by the state constitution. The charter was approved by voters in 1965 (the town incorporated in 1853) and allows Tooele to operate under its own rules of administration rather than state law/legislated forms of city government. The mayor is elected for a four year term. At time of filing, the candidate must declare if they will serve full or part-time and if they intend to hire an assistant mayor. The mayor functions as both the chief executive officer and the city manager. Department heads are hired and dismissed by the mayor with the consent of the city council. The mayor may veto an ordinance or resolution and breaks a tie city council vote.
