Governor Matheson Extradition case files, 1975-1983.

This series contains correspondence between Governor Matheson's office and officials from other states concerning extradition of fugitives. From 1977 to 1981, the extradition coordinator for the State of Utah was Tina Falvo; from 1981 to about 1983, the extradition coordinator was Debra Jones. The fugitives concerned include those who committed the crime in Utah and fled to another state, and those who committed the crime out-of-state and fled to Utah. Most of the crimes committed were burglary, forgery of checks or checks written with insufficient funds, and custodial interference/kidnapping. A notable fugitive whose 1976 extradition file is included in this series is Theodore Bundy, accused murderer who fled to Utah from Colorado. Much of the correspondence and many of the records are from California and Colorado, although a wide variety of states are represented in this series. Other documents in this series are waivers of extradition signed by the fugitives, related courtmaterials, and extradition logs kept by the Governor's office which contain information such as the name of fugitive, the alleged crime, from whom the Governor's office received the extradition request, and the location of the prisoner.
