Scope and Content

This series contains a single book used to document the application of individuals for citizenship. Applicants typically filed a declaration of intention to become a citizen at least two years prior to applying for citizenship. This book contains forms for the application process, including an affidavit from the applicant declaring his desire to become a citizen and renouncing allegiance to any foreign power. The process also required affidavits from two citizens attesting to the applicant fitness to become a citizen. If the applicant qualified, the judge would sign a form granting him citizenship. In addition to details of the requirements for citizenship, the records contains such information as the birth place and date of the applicant, and the year he arrived in the United States.
