Scope and Content

This series contains a single ordinance on the prohibition of the manufacture, sale, barter, exchange, or disposition of alcohol. An ordinance is legislation enacted by the city council to regulate, require, prohibit, govern, control, or supervise any activity, business, conduct, or condition authorized by UCA 10-3-701 to 715 (1997). The ordinances are vehicles for formal action, including setting laws and regulations for the city, granting franchises to individuals or companies, and adopting annual budgets for city government. An ordinance typically includes such elements as an ordinance number, a title, the body of the ordinance, an effective date, the signature of mayor or acting mayor, and the municipal seal.
Ordinance series may contain some related documents, including some resolutions which function much as ordinances, and documentation of publication of ordinances.

Notes

At the time this series was microfilmed in May 2014, it was apparent that various individual ordinances were missing from the files.  In addition, records could not be located for some significant time periods, including from 1853-1894, 1914-1919, 1921-1922, and 1957.

This series was microfilmed by the Utah State Archives in May 2014 as part of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission  (NHPRC) funded local records preservation project.
