Schedule Description

News clippings collected by the Governor's office from various sources. They document, through print and television media coverage, events and activities concerning Governor Michael O. Leavitt. They also include information about issues relating to both the Governor and state, local, federal, or international governments. The office subscribed to a clipping service provided by the Utah Press Association to obtain many of the articles. Contents are photocopies or faxed copies of the original articles. Descriptions, notations on coverage and station information about television coverage were provided by the Utah News Clips service. Staff members highlighted mentions of the Governor in the printed reports that are arranged by date and originally were stored in three-ring binders.

Rural or weekly newspapers and Daily newspapers are all from Utah, while National or Other may be from other areas.

The records were filed as received from the office, resulting in a few apparent gaps. These include September 11, 1999 to March 9, 2000, March 13, 2000 to June 1, 2001, and June 3, 2001 to December 31, 2002 in the Daily newspapers plus a number of individual months in the Rural newspapers.

This series was processed preliminarily by Mary Cook in 2004, following the transfer of records from the Governor's office. Selected records covering the rural weekly newspapers have also been digitized for online access. Scanning was completed by Rodney Swaner in August 2006. Gina Strack completed processing in January 2007.
