Schedule Description

These are newspaper clippings from a paid clipping service the governor's office subscribed to. All clipped stories deal with the governor and his office or administration.
Records which document an agency's history. Includes scrapbooks, photographs, articles, program notes and information about events and programs sponsored or funded by an agency. May also include narrative audio and audiovisual agency histories.

Scope and Content

These newspaper clippings are a glimpse of the most prominent challenges and victories during Clyde's incumbency. Governor Clyde faced one of the worst droughts that Utah had ever seen, that consequently put significant strain on crops and livestock and put heavy economic stresses on the state. These clippings highlight a host of water conservation and distribution efforts of the times such as the Bear River Project, the Weber Basin Project, the Central Utah Project, and the Colorado River -Great Basin Project.
In addition to drought, these brief but informational newspaper clippings also highlight a plethora of other issues during the years of Governor Clyde's incumbency. Topics include a heavy focus on highways and road expansion, health care for the elderly and handicapped, energy use, and education. Issues such as liquor regulations, Native American relations, commissioned monuments and art, and the proceedings of various boards, commissions, and conferences under Governor Clyde are also addressed, and demonstrate how this period of time was a defining one for the great state of Utah.

The "safety files" that begin on Reel 23 and continue with Reel 24 stand out as a different arrangement and type of content compared to the rest of the series. Instead of newspaper clippings, these appear to be subject files on various aspects of traffic, school, water, and winter safety.
