Schedule Description

These records contain death registers for the years 1898 to 1905. Each entry has the decedent's name, occupation, age, marital status, sex, race, color, residence, term of residence, date of death, cause of death, the name of the informant making the report, and an assigned number.

Scope and Content

These records contain death registers for the years 1898-1905. Each entry the decedent's name, occupation, age, marital status, sex, race, color, residence, term of residence, date of death, cause of death, the name of the informant making the report, and an assigned number.
Beginning in 1898, each physician, clergyman, justice of the peace, and undertaker was required to keep a registry of the name, age, residence, and time of death of the decedent. Each person registering deaths filed quarterly with the county clerk or the local board of health in the case of incorporated cities. (Revised Statutes of Utah 1898, Title 57, p. 474-475)
In 1905, the state passed a law requiring each county to file a uniform certificate with the State Bureau of Vital Statistics.

Notes

This series was processed by M. Call in September 1998. Hard copy and a film copy was transferred to the Salt Lake County Archives in 2001; a film copy was also retained. The register was refilmed in 2002.
