With the new school year underway, we’re thrilled to welcome a fresh group of talented interns to the Utah State Archives! Discover more about them and the projects they’ll be working on this semester:

Elizabeth Schiess is a senior at Brigham Young University–Idaho studying humanities. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in either library and information science or museum studies. Elizabeth is all about learning and gathering information and is excited to be increasing the public’s access to information through her internship with the Local Government team.

Jack Tingey graduated in 2021 from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in history. He currently works at This Is The Place Heritage Park as a guest services supervisor and researcher. Jack enjoys studying the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the United States and learning about marginalized groups in history. For his internship, he will work on writing agency histories.

Tallis Spalding recently graduated from Arizona State University with a master’s degree in history, with an emphasis on American history. Currently, she works in the field of content creation, crafting educational and fun history videos in her free time. For her internship, Tallis is excited to learn the first steps in the preservation and archival process with the Local Government team.

Mackenzie Hillery is a senior at Weber State University and is working on her social science composite bachelor’s degree. After graduation, she plans on working as a teacher to inspire the next generation with historical knowledge and respect. Mackenzie will spend the fall with the Reference and Access team learning how to locate records in our collection and working directly what patrons to answer requests.
