Public Notice Website: Registering and Posting
Public Notice Website
Registering and Posting
Utah’s public bodies are required to post notices of open meetings and other public notices on the Public Notice Website. Previously, municipalities, local districts, and special service districts with an annual budget of less than $1,000,000 were exempt from posting notices of public meetings, although they were encouraged to do so.
As of January 1, 2013, this exemption no longer applies and all state, local government, and political subdivisions will be required to post public notices on the Public Notice Website, www.utah.gov/pmn/index.html. Public notices include notices of all public meetings, hearings, or other actions undertaken by governmental entities and established by statute. The requirement is mandated in Utah Code 63f-1-701(7), which states the following:
Until December 31, 2012 and notwithstanding any other provision of statute requiring the publishing or posting of a notice to the website, a public body of a municipality under Title 10, Utah Municipal Code, a local district under Title 17B, Limited Purpose Local Government Entities–Local Districts, or a special service district under Title 17D, Chapter 1, Special Service District Act, with an annual budget of less than $1,000,000 is encouraged but not required to publish or post a notice to the website.
The December 31, 2012 date is quickly approaching, after which the provision will be in full effect. For assistance in registering and posting to the Public Notice Website please contact Susan Mumford, [email protected] or 801-531-3861.
