Still looking for BPE session proposals
REMINDER! The 2013 Best Practices Exchange conference to be held November 13-15, 2013, in
Salt Lake City is still looking for session proposals. The deadline is
September 1st, but we’ll let you sneak them in for a little bit past Labor
Day. See http://www.bpexchange.org/ for details. Anything related to the
preservation and management of electronic records is welcome. Due to the
theme of our conference this year, we especially welcome entries related to
the preservation of electronic audio/visual materials, but don’t let that
limit you on session proposals.
This conference (or un-conference, according to some) is traditionally an
audience-interactive event where we share successes and failures alike. Lay
things on the line and say it like it is. BPE is open to practitioners in
government and university archives and libraries; educators and researchers
in the fields of library science, information science, technology,
archives, and records management; and product developers working to create
systems for managing and preserving digital assets.
We have two guest speakers who will be attending. Bob Bennett, former U.S.
Senator from Utah and current head of Bennett Group International, will
open the conference and express his ideas about how the archives community
can educate and advocate for their needs with those who fund us. Our
keynote speaker is Milt Shefter, from the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He will also conduct a workshop at the end
of BPE for students and independent filmmakers and instructors, as well as other conference
attendees, talking about how to preserve digital materials produced during
the film-making process.
Do you have collections used by genealogists? Utah is the prime spot for
seeing how the family history community does its work. Tours will be given
to local repositories, including the Family History Library, Utah State
Archives, and Ancestry.com’s facilities.
