We’re excited to welcome Austen Bergstrom to the Utah State Archives! While Austen may already be a familiar face to some staff members, he is now joining the team as an Archivist in the Access and Transparency Services Section. We’re thrilled to have him on board and look forward to the knowledge and enthusiasm he brings to the role. Get to know Austen in his own words:

What is your job title and what types of things will/do you work on?

My job title is Archivist I for the Access and Transparency Services Section. I work with the team to process patron requests, assist researchers, and help connect people with records held by the Utah State Archives. I’ve also been helping with the recent increase in Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) claims.

What is your background and how did it lead you to working at the State Archives?

This is my first full-time position after earning my master’s degree in American History from the University of Utah. Before that, I completed three internships here at the Archives, working with the Digital Initiatives and Local Government programs.

What are you most excited about your new job?

I’m excited to help people with their research and RECA claims. This is one of the many ways state government serves the public, and I’m happy to be part of that process.

Any special hobbies/talents that you want to share with a larger audience?

I love film photography, horror movies, and collecting CDs!

From intern to archivist, Austen’s journey at the Utah State Archives has come full circle. We’re thrilled to welcome him back and look forward to the knowledge, dedication, and fresh perspective he brings to the team.
