The Office provides legal services for the city. The Civil Section provides legal counsel to the Mayor, City Council, and city departments including: Administrative Services, Community Development, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Police, Public Utilities, Public Works and Parks and Recreation. The office represents the City before administrative boards, agencies and commissions. Practice areas include the drafting or reviewing of all legal documents including contracts, ordinances, resolutions and legal opinions and policies. Practice areas of the Civil Section include land use, employment, licensing, permits, public records, taxes, elections and litigation. The Sandy City Prosecutor's Office prosecutes criminal violations of state laws and city ordinances in the United States Federal Court, the State of Utah Third Judicial District Court and the Sandy City Justice Court.
