New Finding Aids at the Archives: April 2019

Births: Reports to Registers
The State of Utah began issuing birth certificates in 1905. Before the law was passed, local government offices used different methods to record the vital records of births and deaths in their community. In 1898, birth and death registrations were  done within the offices of county clerks across the state. For births, physicians and midwives reported the births they attended

Soundex Birth Index Online
Even with indexes to Utah birth certificates, there is an additional research tool for births recorded before 1934. That is when as part of a Works Progress Administration project all birth certificates in Utah since 1904 were indexed and published in several volumes. Specialists in vital statistics still use these books as an aid to locating a birth record. Arrangement
