Grants Available to Preserve Utah’s Historical Records
The Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board (USHRAB) is happy to announce their next grant round. Grants are for increased access to and preservation of Utah’s historical records. Grant requests can be up to $7,500 and all projects must have a public access component. Grants are available to regional and local repositories and other nonprofit cultural heritage organizations. Grant applications must be received or postmarked by April 13th. There is an optional draft deadline of March 23rd. 2017 Grant Recipients
The USHRAB awarded 7 grant projects in 2017 totaling $29,893. Below you can see the variety of institutions and the types of projects that can be funded through the USHRAB grant program.
-  Box Elder Museum Foundation was awarded $6,938 to digitize rolls of microfilm from Box Elder newspapers from 1890–2016. By the end of the project the newspapers will be available through the Utah Digital Newspapers website.
- Cache Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum is working with Utah State University to digitize portraits and historic documents relating to Cache County. Digitized images will be available through the Utah State University website. The Museum was awarded $1,006.
- Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nations was awarded $3,950 to organize and place in archival boxes their Tribal records. An inventory of the records will be available through the Tribal website.
- Salt Lake Community College is digitizing 800 institutionally significant photographs from the 1950s to the 1990s. The images will be accessible through the Mountain West Digital Library and the Salt Lake Community College Digital Archives. They were awarded $2,000.
- Southern Utah University is processing and placing in archival boxes a collection of materials documenting the local history around the creation of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Photographs from the collection will be digitized. They were awarded $1,100.
- Uintah and Ouray Ute Tribe was awarded $7,400 to digitize 200 photographs and place photographs and 10 videos online at a newly created Uintah and Ouray Tribe website.
- Weber State University Library is processing and digitizing their Red Cross of Northern Utah collection. An index and images will be available through their website. They were awarded $7,499.

The USHRAB is staffed by the State Archives and assists both public and private nonprofit organizations in the preservation of their historical records. The USHRAB’s re-grant program is funded through a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
