The Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board (USHRAB) is made up of professionals from around the state who have experience in the management, preservation, and care of historical records. Board members are appointed by the Governor and serve three-year terms, each bringing their own expertise to the group and acting as a regional representative from all of Utah’s far-flung corners. We are very pleased to introduce our two newest Board members who joined us in January 2021. Today, let’s meet Tarienne Mitchell!

Tarienne is an Archivist at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints History Library. Here she shares with us a little about herself and her work:

What got you into your field?
Looking for a better job opportunity, I started looking [into] Master’s programs. I had a Bachelor’s degree in video production and saw that I could use those skills as an audio visual librarian, so I applied. While in school at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, I took a preservation class and fell in love with archives.

Can you tell me about a project you’re excited to work on this year (non-USHRAB related)?
I have been helping with the establishment of the Utah Black History Museum [website coming soon!]. The traveling exhibit [launched] on February 20, 2021.

What are you most excited to work with the USHRAB on during your Board term?
I’m looking forward to helping with outreach and spreading the word about our grants and the opportunities that are available through the USHRAB.

Tarienne will be joining the Board’s brand new Outreach Subcommittee. This working group will be reviewing the Board’s current outreach policies and researching ways to better connect with those who would benefit from the USHRAB’s services, especially traditionally underserved audiences.

We look forward to working with Tarienne in the years to come!
